What is this faith? What’s it like? What kind of thing is it? It is a receiving of Christ for who he really
is: the beautiful, supreme, all-satisfying treasure that he is, as our divine substitute and sovereign. It is the receiving of Christ for who he is. Not as health insurance or fire insurance. How many hundreds of thousands of people are in our churches who have not received Christ as the beautiful, glorious, infinitely valuable, all-satisfying sovereign and substitute and treasure that he is, and are not saved year
after year in church? I grew up with so many. This is why faith inevitably transforms the
heart and life.
